We come now to the point in which Doc finally meets his maker, in a manner of speaking—the crown prince of Palos Verdes, one Crocker Fenway. A wealthy elitist who lives a life of unusually high density and incoherence, raping and pillaging the American Fate for his own nefarious ends, Crocker is as close as we get to a Big Bad in Inherent Vice, and he’s the man who paid Doc his first buck on his first case… So what’s it mean to meet your god, and find out he’s a devil?
